Newly appointed Minister of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia Mkhitar Hayrapetyan suggests creating a bicameral parliament, one of the cameras of which will be represented by representatives of the Armenian Diaspora. “

I will try to address this issue in the near future.

This can’t be a decision that I make for myself. This idea, which is part of the platform of my political party, must be discussed, updated and agreed upon. My teammates and I came up with this idea,” Hayrapetyan said, in response to Sputnik Արմենիա’s question. According to Hayrapetyan, the creation of a bicameral parliament will be the right way of cooperating with the Armenian Diaspora and engaging it in the acknowledgement of issues related to the Armenian Diaspora.

According to Hayrapetyan, it is not safe to insist that the initiative will be part of the government’s program. “However, I will advance this idea since it is one of the major points in our political platform,” Hayrapetyan said. He stated that the Ministry will be accepting recommendations from Diaspora Armenians in regard to this issue as well and that is why there may be changes. According to him, the representatives of parliament must be elected in their respective communities.

The new Minister of Diaspora was appointed on 11 May, replacing Hranush Hakobyan. Mkhitar Hayrapetyan is the youngest minister of the cabinet of new Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Mkhitar Hayrapetyan was born in 1990.
