Armenia's ruling Republican Party, led by President Sarkisian, is leading in key parliamentary elections, according to an exit poll. The opposition claimed there was widespread voter fraud. Armenia's ruling Republican Party was ahead in key parliamentary elections, the first since constitutional changes turned the country into a parliamentary system, an early exit poll said late Sunday.

President Serzh Sarkisian's Republican Party was leading with 46 percent of the vote, according to an exit poll conducted by Armenia's Sociologists' Association and Baltic Surveys/Gallup International.

The opposition coalition behind Gagik Tsarukian, a former arm wrester and one of the ex-Soviet state's wealthiest men, was trailing with 25 percent. Two other opposition parties, Elk Coalition and the nationalist Dashnaktsutyun, were at 10 and five percent, respectively.
